Website won't open in XPHome/IE6

Hi Joan,

I also use Norton AntiVirus and made an important discovery recently. Their
2006 upgrade has an "oops" in it. This is probably off-the-wall as to your
problem, but thought I'd mention it. When I went to do a System Restore,
it wouldn't work. I tried twice. I finally found my answer on an MVP
website and here's what I needed to do.

Open up Norton program,
Click: Options
At the top, click Norton AntiVirus
In left pane, click Miscellaneous
Remove check from "Turn Protection On For My Symantec protect."
Click OK

This released the lockup of System Restore and I was finally able to do my
System Restore. We are reminded that when finished, put the checkmark back
in. - This needs to be done every time we do a System Restore.

Don't know how this could affect you, but just tossing an idea in the hat of
more places to look.

Vicki

Hi Reader!
I have been searching for a solution for the webpage-problem,searched in the
MVP-documents and performed all the actions they advised in this problem, it
didn't give me shiny days! It has been pouring for days in my part of the
world, so the misery was almost complete!!

I'm glad to hear that your problem was solved, I'v had NAV for 6 years now
and there has been nu opdate whatsoever, I tend to blame the MSfirewall
and/or updates. If I uninstall the Norton programme (and reinstall) I'm
afraid my computer will be unprotected????
Any advice?
Joan

Hi Don.

Well, I did not try your complete solution, but while in safe mode with
networking, I was able to get to the site. This leads me to believe there
must be some kind of conflict with McAfee & Windows.

I'll have to try contacting McAfee's support desk. I'm wondering if this
was one of the first sites I launched after a McAfee update. They recently
released a new version of their Internet Security Suite and since this
release, I've had a variety of problems (the red x issue that others have
referred to on this board. McAfee was able to replicate my issue, but so
far,
I have not seen a fix).

I do not allow anything from McAfee or Norton into the building. Some
machines have AVG and some have Avast as an anti-virus (and some have none)
and all use the Windows Firewall.

Three machines have Windows Defender. One of those is Vista, which comes
with it.

i had the same problem so i had my friend come round and sort it out, you
have to change your windows view to classic, it may look grotty but it solves
the problem and takes you straight back to your homepage you had before this
mess started, i dont know exactly how he did it but good luck with your
internet trouble problem solved.
