See if your web host offers any sort of statistics package or if you can get
the raw server logs and run your own analysis.

I use page counters and have a page that reads ALL the counters on ONE page
without incrementing the counters. Then I print the print the counters.

I do this each Sunday.

Then I key the counters into an excell spreadsheet that calculates the
difference from last weeks counters.

This gives me week by week, month by month, seasonal fluctuation in visitor
rates for each page on my web sites( several).

I know that the present political correct method is reading the server log.
But I find that processs to be too involved technically, and does not
provide as convenient, nor as easy to understand document as what I can get
from page counters and a simple spreadsheet.

However reading the actual log file will tell you how your visitors are getting to your site, how
long they stayed, what page they came in on, and then what page they looked at and what page they
exited your site on.

Also the time of day that is most activate, how much bandwidth was used, etc.

Plus you don't get duplicate counts for page views by the same visitor.

None of the above is possible with a page hid counter.

There are some free and low cost web stat analyzers available, as long as you have FTP access to the
raw log files for your account to download them, as these application run under Windows on your
computer.

The page counters I use do NOT count reloads of the same page during the
same visitation. Further, these page counters are a lot more reliable than
the one provided within FrontPage. I have tracked visitors with both . . and
have concluded that the page counters were a more reliable method. And I
concluded that the FrontPage counters were of questionable accuracy.

Agreed (FP Hit Counter), but unless you are using a 3rd party service, you only getting the page
view count.

Anyway, if what you are doing meet your needs, then that great!
