My friend gave me a webcam, I don't know what kind it is.
It is black and it says QuickCam. I plugged it in and my
computer said new software had been detected and when I
tried to install it was saying stuff I didn't understand
and then it said when I connected to the internet it
would look for the right software but it never did. I
don't have a disc for it and my question is if there is
anyway I can install it without a disc. I have a windows
xp.

Logitech QuickCam most likely.

Go here:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=downloads/categories&CRID=1794&countryid=2&languageid=1

Find your camera, if there, and download the appropriate software/driver.

BTW - I noticed you gave your email (it looks real enough) - if so, expect
some spam increase in your inbox. Some may look like they are from
Microsoft, 99% of them will not be.. Never install patches unless you
downloaded them from a reliable source.
