Web Page Not Available Offline.

XP Home SP2 Intel Celeron 2.66 GHz 768 mb of RAM

Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.XPSP_SP2

Hi, All,

Using Internet Explorer 6, I can download and save a Web Page in the "Web
Page Complete", "Single File" or HTML format. However, when I click to read
it I always get the message: "The Web Page You Requested is Not Available
Offline". After clicking the message box twice the file will slowly open and
I can read the message. It makes no difference whether or not the "Work
Offline" option is checked in the File menu. I prefer using the single File
MHTML format.

Any help much appreciated.

That's normal. Some advertising will not be cached
or some advertising gets loaded by script.
You could try disabling scripting in the latter case.

Post an example URL if you need more help.

Hi, Robert,
Many thanks for your reply.

This problem occurs with most of the saved downloaded files on my HDD and
didn't occur with my previous PC setup.

Your suggestion regarding caching sounds a possible answer as each time I
click the Close button on the "Web Page Not Available" message box the little
green progress bar at the bottom of the screen closes a bit more until after
clicking twice more the file finally opens.

Did you mean to check the option to "Disable Script Debugging" in Tools >
Internet Options > Advanced when you said to disable scripting? I tried that
and rebooted, but without success.

Hi again, Robert,

I've disabled all the script settings in IE > Tools > Internet Options >
Security > Custom without success.

No. It's an option in the Security settings.
Doubleclick on the Internet icon in the Status bar.
Then choose Custom Level and navigate to
Scripting section
Active Scripting
Either Disable it or make it a Prompt.
Keystrokes: M,CursorLeft,P,Space

Note: I'm reading this in IE7 so I'm not positive that the same
navigation trick (collapsing the Miscellaneous section)
will work in IE6 but I think it will.

Another way to disable scripting quickly is to use
the IE Developer Toolbar and its Disable Scripting command.

Another way I think would be to set the level to High.
(Alt-L,CursorUp)

Be sure to remember to revert to Default Level when you have
finished testing or you could confuse yourself not being able to
use some sites such as the web interface to newsgroups
that you are using. ; )

Good luck

Robert

Hi, Robert,
Thanks again for your suggestions.

Are you happy with IE7?
I downloaded it a couple of days ago, but after all the negative comments
I've read I'm a bit cautious about installing it. However, creating a Restore
Point could be some insurance, Im guess.
