hello all,

i keep getting this pop-up in XP, brand new machine,
anyway it says that i need to download a patch and gives
me the following url:

http://www.windows-patch.info

then you choose a operating system, and it takes you to a
another page and wants to sell you the patch for $20?
What's the deal with this? Any ideas?

best, paul.

It looks like a scam.

You should only ever get your Windows updates by...

a) selecting start -> control panel -> Performance and maint. -> windows
update (on the left)

or

b) by visiting microsofts web site at www.microsoft.com and then following
the Windows update link.

NEVER follow a link someone sends you to get to the Microsoft web site (not
even the one I put above). It's too easy to fake it so that the URL looks
right but in fact takes you to another site that looks like the Microsoft
web site.

Hi,
you should never install any patch or security update issued by any thid
party website. And always visit the windows update site to keep your
system updated as well as secured.
Any way this is the original KB Article, you will find the dates of
issuing were also different. So you now know whats is wrong and what is
right.
