web image location

Is it possible to make the location of an image be outside of the wwwroot
directory? I am trying to pull an image the will be different just about
every time from a different server. Is this possible or will the security
features keep me from doing this?

For a webpage, why not it is handled as normal HTML.

It can be everywhere on the world when it is available.

I have a .Net routine that creates a thumbnail of the image. I need to
resize the original and then display it.

Can you use this sample from me, the difference is that the image comes from
the database.
