Web from disc

Tom B.

I put my class website on my hard drive because the
school server dumps it at the end of the semester. I
downloaded it onto a CD-R and want to mail it to a
friend. Since it's only on disc, is a Preview In Browser
through FrontPage the only way for her to view it in a
browser?
Is there any other option? Such as...
Possibly click and drag an Internet Explorer icon into
the Web folder before downloading onto disc possibly
allowing her to view it in the IE browser without opening
up FrontPage? I know the FrontPage method would
definitely work, but just curious if there's an
alternative just in case she doesn't have FrontPage.
Thank you. TB

She should just be able to browse to the CD in Windows Explorer and your home page file, to double click it and start browsing it
from the CD in IE

Thank you for the sound solution. I found that if I go
directly to Windows Explorer, my D Drive will not appear.
If I go to My Computer and just click on the D Drive
there and open the index.htm icon as you suggested, it
will open in the browser as you stated. Thanks again.

Your D drive should be displayed in explorer if you can see it in My Computer.
Did you scroll down to the bottom of the list?

yes, you can view the site through a browser just by putting in the pathname to
the site i.e. c:\folder\folder\sitename\index.htm. if it has compoents that
require frontpage extensions, then the site needs to be hosted on a server with
fp extensions.

You don't need to necessarily 'preview in browser'.....just type in the pathname.

it will only show if there's a disk in it.

Thanks Andrew. I figured the best way for me to view my
site in the browser is to just double click on the
index.htm folder and it seems to automatically open up in
the browser. My question was if I send a CD-R of my site
to a friend, what's the best way for her to view it. Now
I realize all she needs to do is go to her D:Drive
through My Computer, open site on disc, and once again
just double click on index.htm, and voila! it opens in
browser also. Thank you for you input. Tom

OK. Here's the deal. The Windows Explorer that appears
when I right click on the Start button and click on
Explore has ALL the drives shown on the left. But, the
Windows Explorer that appears when I go to Start/All
Programs/Accessories/Windows Explorer, does NOT have the
D:Drive on it! Imagine that. Go figure. I was using the
WE on my desktop I had sent from Start/All
Programs/Accessories. That's why it wasn't showing. Guess
I'll just have to use the right click Start Menu WE.
Thanks. Tom

Andrew,
But putting the pathname in is also a good way of viewing
it in the browser from my hard drive. I was curius about
how my friend would view it from a disc. Now I know.
Thanks.
