exact same thing
It gets the error msg then a split second it starts

ok I uninstalled WD, used CCleaner, rebooted computer, reinstalled WD and
problem went away.
My advise to others is to uninstall the beta first then install the WD final

robin;
Did you download the installation files, then disable all security apps
including:
1 shutdown the WD service, "net stop windefend"
2 exit the WD application, right click the taskbar icon
before you tried the install of the previously downloaded installation
file? Doing those steps seemed to work for me as an over the top install
without un-installing first. Although the re-install did wipe out all my
previous Options/History/Excludes which I was trying to avoid by carefully
upgrading in place... unfortunately without success. Perhaps a Team
usability issue... as they say?

The Excludes later turned up in the system event log for anyone else in the
same situation... manually adding those locations back into Options now...

Thanks Robin.
I think I shall continue my policy of 'wait and watch' for a while yet!

Dave,
no I just put WD right ontop of the old one, I did not shutdown the service
maybe that is why it happened.
Also none of my history is there either

ok had no problems uninstalling and re installing WD on 2 computers but the
3rd one did.
I had to uninstall WD 3x
the third time I got smart and had CCcleaner clean out all the temp files.
Finally WD is working fine now
and Alan you are too paranoid
just set a restore point if you are so worried about what it will do- worse
you can go back to before you began :)

you'll both have to fight over it... or else it automatically goes to
whomever can hold off on IE 7 the longest

Me? Paranoid? I just don't understand why you're all out to get me!

Seriously though, I do think it makes sense for someone like me to wait and
watch for a bit - for instance, if I'd just installed it straight away, I
wouldn't have had the benefit of Dave's tip about closing Defender with the
RUN command, nor of reading about the experience of Robin with her first
install problem. It's more a question of trying to control potentially
panic-inducing situations, rather than outright paranoia.
