Earlier today whenever I'd play an MP3 or what have you the Wave Balance
Slider would raise when it started to play. It just started doing it today.
I've found only one thing dealing with the Slider and it was due to Encarta
Encyclopedia. I don't have that program. heh

I was wonder if anyone else had this problem. If so is there a fix?
Also, I haven't installed anything to my PC today.

"Wave Balance SLider would raise". Raise? Maybe you meant the *volume*
slider would raise up.

"Play an MP3 or what have you" in WHAT? What application are you
playing the multimedia file? Windows Media Player? Something else?
Could be that player remember what was its last volume setting and makes
a change to the current settings to match it.

I'd try using WMP or Winamp. Whenever I'd play the mp3 the volume would get
louder and I'd have to turn it down. Last time I had that problem was with
Ultraplayer but that was nearly 2 yrs ago.

You didn't mention what audio hardware you have (i.e., onboard audio or
sound card). Maybe the driver/software for your audio hardware has an
auto-gain option. However, I would think it would engage regardless of
what filetype you played. Does this happen only with .mp3 files? Some
audio and video software let you define profiles that trigger when a
specified application is loaded. If your audio software provides for
defining "sound profiles", are you using any?

AC97... on board... only does it with Winamp. .mp3 and .wav... also video
files, I tried the internet tv function on it too to check it. I uninstalled
it and reinstalled it and it didn't do it at first, but a few minutes later
it started 'acting up' again. Tried it again with WMP and it doesn't raise
the Wave Balance slider so no volume boost at all.

Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Realtek AC'97 for VIA (r) Audio
Controller, Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio, Device, MPU-401 Compatible MIDI
Device, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs, Legacy Video Capture Devices
*all of the above are in the Dev Mgr under the Sound/vid/game controllers*
