Watch out for vigilantees

Just trapped an email message from some guy I don't know that he is
taking
vengence on me for sending him a virus. He is retaliating by sending me
a worm which he claims will destroy my machine. This guy is either a
B.S. artist, a sicko, or some disallusioned idiot out for revenge. What
he doesn't know is that hackers could have easily gotten a hold of my
email address (I believe that is how the Sobig works), and sent out the
virus to appear as if it came from me. I can understand someone being
ticked off after getting a virus, but to swing out blindly at anything
in
sight is not the answer. I don't know who else got a virus from this
guy
Kurtis at evocash.com, but he is a real menace. If this guy is the
administrator of the software of this company, I think he should be
fired.
If his 'worm' virus was as effective as he claimed by just reading his
message, I'm glad I have the necessary software to filter this stuff
out.

Watch out for this guy,

Sherwin Dubren

Mr Blevins,
Are you implying that I never got this message? Actually, I did check
evocash's website and they claim they are the target for these kinds of
things. Exactly, what is your problem?

Exactly, what is your problem?

Idiots typically. Neither worms, viruses or trojans are capable of
"destroying a machine". They may and often do wreck havoc on software
and clog up a network with activity at times, but destroying a
machine? Uh...no.

I don't know your definition of 'destroying a machine', but I have
caught
viruses that made my machine totally inoperative. I think that comes
close to 'destroying' the machine. I know of people who could not clean
their machines with any anti-virus program, and that required a reload
of
all their software. Most viruses can be cleaned with enough effort, but
it certainly is not a pleasant experience. Some of these viruses may
not
destroy your entire machine, but they can do a hell of an amount of
damage. Some files cannot be cleaned, and must be reloaded if you are
lucky enough to have a backup. In the case I originally described,
these
people probably were trying to scare people, but that doesn't mean that
viruses cannot be very dangerous. Anybody that takes viruses lightly is
an idiot!

Report them to the abuse address of their ISP. Dos'nt take a lot of
thinking about.

Seeing how you know how easy it is for your email address to be forged, what
makes you think that this "vigilante" email isn't using a forged address?

Hi David,
My first impression was that this virus came from a legitimate
sender. I
subsequently found out that these people are trying to attack the site
they pretend to be from. The company in question sent me a very nice
reply, which should be of interest to people who wonder where some of
these viruses are coming from, and why they are sent. The following is
the reply I got:

We can see that you have received an abusive spam email with an Evocash
return
address. We apologize for this and can assure you that the email did not
originate from us, we hate spam as much as anyone else. A group of
Internet
scammers and thieves known as the ICafe Group from New Zealand opened
accounts
with Evocash with the sole intention of stealing money from people. They
were so
confident that they could get away with it that they tried to blackmail
us into
leaving their accounts open so that they could carry on stealing.
As soon as we blocked the last of the ICafe Group accounts they started
to
send out Spam messages. These messages are being sent at random to
thousands of
email addresses. The abusive message they sent was done to make as many
people
as they can angry so that they complain to Evocash. These people have
created a
fake Evocash address which makes it look like the email came from us,
this is
not difficult to do and a ten year old is capable of making up any fake
address.

Some of the recent messages are now saying that a worm or virus has been
delivered that will wreck your computer, this of course is not true it’s
just another ploy to make you angry. We also know that at the same time
they
have decided to attack a company called e-forexgold, a well known and
highly
respected Australian exchanger (www.e-forexgold.com) and Stormpay
another
online currency business who will not give in to their fraudulent
demands. These
ICafe people have done exactly the same thing and created a bogus
(e-mail address removed) email address and a stormpay.com address, which
they are
using to send out abusive messages.
If you have received an abusive email from these people then we
apologize and
can assure you that it did not come from e-forexgold, Stormpay or us.
Please
read the other warnings about this group by going to
http://www.evocash.com and
clicking on the drop down box of our warning page (please read all 7
warnings)
it will become quite obvious that this has come about because we would
not give
in to their blackmail threats.

Regards

Evocash

These virus people know how to cover up their tracks and I will try to
be
more discriminatory about reacting to them.
