I just did this, and in the process my starting page was changed back to
the "Firefox Start" page. This leads me to wonder what other options
were altered without asking me. Not only that, but the following
extentions were disabled:

TinyURL Creator
Print Preview
Copy Plain Text
Prefbar

Be forewarned.

I don't reply to trolls and other such idiots. No adware, cdware,
commercial software, crippleware, demoware, nagware, PROmotionware,

please.

Same here, but this morning my original homepage was set back again.

Also, don't plan on looking for Extension updates. The Extension page
loads slower than molasses at this point because everybody's updating.

Stumbleupon

This is a backwards step. What's more I cannot do any updates, as it keeps
blocking them, even though I have checked/unchecked, shut-down, restarted
and just about everything.

Are you having the same trouble?

Yes, I had that one listed too. And what gets me is that even Internet
Explorer has a "Print Preview" button on its toolbar. IMO that this
isn't a standard feature in Firefox is cutting it too far back.

Not me! I just uninstalled Firefox 1.5, rebooted, reinstalled Firefox
1.0.7, rebooted, deleted both the program folder (C:\Program
Files\Mozilla Firefox) and the profile folder (C:\WINDOWS\Application
Data\Mozilla) and then copied my backup versions of those folders from
my cloned internal hard drive back onto their proper locations on my
main drive.

VOILA! Right back where I was before installing 1.5.

I'm telling ya, with the price of hard drives being what they are these
days, running a computer without an internal (or external) backup no
longer makes any sense.

I'm going to hold off on the update until those extensions get updated.
I absolutely WILL NOT run Firefox without Prefbar either.

And a lot of others. There has been warnings about this a long time
before 1.5 were released.

I thought you knew that you should read the small print before
installing anything, John ;-)

http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.5.html
Extensions installed under Firefox 1.0 may be incompatible and/or require updates to work with Firefox 1.5. Please report any issues to the maintainer of the extension. When you install Firefox 1.5, your Extensions and Themes may be disabled until Firefox 1.5 determines that either a) they are compatible with the Firefox 1.5 release or b) there are newer versions available that are compatible. This is because Firefox changes from release to release and as such the ways in which some extensions integrate changes, meaning there can be problems when running an older extension with a newer version of Firefox. If you find that your favorite Extension or Theme has not been updated to be compatible with this release of Firefox, write the author and encourage them to update it.

Give the Extension authors time to catch up.

But of course! I just didn't expect so many of what I consider
fundamental extensions to be disabled. On the good side, I did notice
that many of them are listed as being compatible with Deer Park, so
they'll probably get compatible with FF 1.5 within a short time.

Give the Extension authors time to catch up.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. In the mean time though, I'm
back to using 1.0.7 as I described in my reply to Saxman.

Don,
Could you please clarify that? I know that Print Preview is available
on the menu, but what the extension does is to make a button available
for adding to the toolbar. As for the other stuff???

Right click on the toolbar/customise and you might see it in a new window (
a magnifying glass set on sheet of paper. If it's there, drag it onto the
toolbar.

With the extension Print Preview installed yes. Not in the default
Firefox 1.5 installation. Saxman, you misunderstood JC... :-)

Thanks Vegard - you're right. And by the way, the Print Preview
extension is now been updated for compatibility with FF 1.5. So have
TinyURL Creator and Copy Plain Text, but for some reason those updated
versions are only available from here:

http://btcorp.dyndns.org/Tools/FireFoxExtensions/FF_1.5_extensions/

and I'm not familiar with that site. I'll be waiting until the updated
versions are available from the official Firefox Extensions website.

Now as far as Prefbar, since that extension hasn't been updated for a
while and isn't approved (I wonder what THAT takes!), it's hard to say
what will happen there.

It takes a review by at least one of the volunteers on the testing
team. Details at <http://wiki.mozilla.org/Update:Reviewers_Guide>.
(UMO refers to update.mozilla.org, sometimes now called AMO since the
switch to using the addons.mozilla.org subdomain.)

Not all extension authors submit their extensions to AMO; it's
possible PrefBar will never show up there.

Hi, John. The site you refer to, was mentioned in a thread yesterday,
and Q said:
It looks like the person hosting them has just bumped up the maxversion
for those extensions. Old extensions can break things in new Firefox
versions. (Though I'm sure he wouldn't have put them on the web
without at least some testing.) I'd recommend backing up the entire
profile folder before trying these, just to be safe.

"Save link to..." - when, oh when, will that particular extension be
updated....

That's a real shame too, given its popularity. The ability to spoof user
agents and the easy access to things like turning javascript and system
colors on or off is TTBOMK not available in any other extension.

FWIW, here is how I have my Prefbar toolbar set up from left to right:

Proxy Menulist
Colors
JavaScript
Flash
Java
Kill Flash (only works part of the time so I use the Bookmarklet:

http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/

"Zap Plugins" for this function usually)

Clear Location Bar
Clear History
Clear Cache

I went ahead, gritted my teeth and got the modified versions of TinyURL
Creator and Copy Plain Text from that site and they work fine. Print
Preview has actually been updated, so it wasn't necessary to find a
modified version. My guess though, is that Prefbar won't work with FF
1.5 because of the way the Options menu has been modified, but it's not
available at that site anyway.
Now as far as Prefbar, since that extension hasn't been updated for a

Has anybody used a modified version of Prefbar and gotten it to work okay?
