I just hate it when ignorant incompetent stupid people .like you, proclaim
this or that is "impossible"
nothing is impossible
It is impossible to run any *supported* configuration of Internet Explorer 6
on Vista.
There may be improvised hacks floating around, which purport to splice IE6
onto Vista. They are not tested or supported by Microsoft.
The correct answers to the OP's question are:
1) Adjust IE7's User Agent string. Many sites and apps that have problems
with Internet Explorer 7 are not actually incompatible with IE7; they just
don't have any logic to handle the IE7 user agent string. By running a small
Microsoft-supplied utility, you can let IE7 report itself as Internet
Explorer 6, bypassing this problem. See the fourth question on:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/iefaq.mspx
2) For sites and applications which really do have incompatibility problems
with IE7 (and not just "user agent string" issues), the workaround is to run
IE6 on top of Windows XP, inside a Virtual Machine on Vista. This is the
solution Synapse Syndrome rightly suggested.
If options 1 and 2 both fail, for identified reasons which cannot be
corrected, the OP *might* choose to consider an unsupported solution. They
should make a sober assessment of the risks associated with moving into an
unsupported configuration. It is rarely a good solution, only one of
desperation; and it should not be recommended lightly, unadvisedly, or in
cavalier fashion (IMHO).
