wallpaper for Default profile is not saved

Dean Bakker

I've created a defailt profile on a XP Professioal machine. I've set the
default wallpaper to point to a corporate picture. However when a new user
account is created the wallpaper does not appear.
When I check inside the registry:
HKU_ControlPanel_Desktop\Wallaper
and it's poiting to the right place.
Also when I check the desktop settings (right click desktop, properties) it
displays the right wallpaper in the preview image, but it's still not
displayed on the desktop.

Ay ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dean,

Check your settings here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop. In the right pane change to path
to Wallpaper.

No problem, but what are you saying?) Did the reference help or have
you already been there, done that?

Thanks Kelly,

I changed the setting for HKU\.default, however the probleml still persists.

I even loaded the ntuser.dat file into the registry and made the
modification there, but I still exeperience the smae problem.

Try changing the corporate picture to a .bmp, save it in the
\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper folder. Had the same problem - nothing else worked.
If you go to desktop properties, Desktop Background, it would show as if the
..jpg was to display, everything looked correct, but no wallpaper. Sometimes
doing a F5 refresh on the desktop would work, but my only REAL and easy
solution was to use a .bmp for the wallpaper.

Hi Dean,

Post here what is listed for Wallpaper via the registry. In the meantime,
run this edit:

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
