On my system I display a special wallpaper behind the login dialog.
I'm coaching a friend to reproduce my setup. He followed my
instructions, but still sees a plain blue background. What did we
miss?
First, he stored the wallpaper as C:\windows\property.bmp
Then he ran regedit and navigated to the folder
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
There he set these keys with the values shown:
TileWallpaper 1
Wallpaper C:\WINDOWS\property.bmp
WallpaperStyle 1
Finally he disabled the Welcome screen (the one that says "To begin,
click your user name") according to
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prdp_log_zxxb.asp
Now when he starts Windows, like me, he sees the old login dialog
(Username and password). But behind his login dialog is a plain blue
screen, behind mine is the "property.bmp" wallpaper.
What could he have missed?
