The problem can never be solved by adding additional layers
of security. The "Real" problem is the knowledge gap that exists
for PC users. Most IT people know of things like Cookies,
Active-X, firewalls,etc. Most of the clients I deal with have no
idea how risky using the Internet is. If I ran Microsoft, I would
create a video presentation on Internet security and how to use
Windows more safely and mail a copy to every licensed user of
Microsoft operating systems. Making the operating system more
secure is a good thing, educating the users is even better.

Spam is not an excuse to engage in deceptive public statements. If I want to
hand out any written material I am required by law to include who is
publishing and who is printing it. I don't see why a foreign company should
be advocating behaviour that is

1/ against the principal underlying the law (and could even be considered
illegal by a court if they ever look at it).

2/ is against the principal of disclosure in public discourse.

, they spoof Microsoft.

If Microsoft and the FBI had the means to stop it, they
surely would.

Microsoft has instructions on their web site on security and
how to recognize these emails. Since you don't follow these
proper procedures, don't blame Microsoft.

This is not about "censorship" -

Again, that would be your point of view, not neccessarily anyone elses.

it is about keeping this group free
from unnecessarily - off topic posts that just clutter the group up
for those actually trying to help others who post relevant questions
related to Windows XP.
The original poster has been advised by private channels about their
posts.

So keep it there. Aren't you just cluttering this NG with useless
clutter right now, by pulling the original post but publicly
acknowledging it here in this group?

Well, that's a total falsehood. The majority of OT posts, not only stay
on the server, but they get answered too. I see that my Happy Birthday
post to the MS-MVP Kelly has been on this server since it is was posted
on 11/22, and it had absolutely nothing to do with Windows XP.

groups have clearly defined names that describe their purpose all off
topic posts are just that - off topic; and thus should not be posted
here. There are many other newsgroups out there on Usenet for
Ricky's questions and posts - this is not the right place for those.

Well that is totally subjective, but as long as he doesn't post funky
attachments, obscenities, and doesn't spam the group with ads, I really
don't see the harm. And you only draw more attention to his inane posts
by pulling these kind of stunts.
