Wake up on its own

Vista will intermittently wake my computer from sleep mode on its own in the
middle of the night. I have disabled the wireless keyboard and mouse from
waking the computer so these do not cause the computer to wake. Any other
suggestions?

Maybe you snore to loud and awake the computer?
Actually I was thinking that maybe you have some program or another that is
running in the background and that causes the awakening. My XP machine used
to do that with a messenger program I had, thats why I mention it.

I think you should shutdown at night until MS can solve the Sleep problems.
Many things can wake the computer--the default installation of automatic
updates is 3 am. It can also be Media Center checking for guides, as well as
other programs "phoning home." Creative and Real Networks are great for this.
You should allow the keyboard and mouse to wake the computer.

Hi,

Check "wake on lan" and "wake on ring" settings in the BIOS.

If you have a task scheduled for the middle of the night, like say a full
system AV scan, then that too would wake the machine up.

Same problem here.
Set it to sleep of unused for 1 hour..

Then all of the sudden it starts up.

weird.. no popups or program boots

Thanks for the advice. However Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combos wake
the computer as soon as it is turned off. The recommended advice is to
disable the function. It solved that problem!

A scheduled event can/will wake a sleeping computer to run the event.

In Control Panel\Power Options > click on "Change plan settings" under
your chosen plan, and then click on "Change advanced power settings".
Expand "Multimedia", then expand "When sharing media" and choose "Allow the
computer to sleep" (Apply, OK). I don't actually share media, but for some
reason changing this from the default has cured my computer of its insomnia.

If you have a cable modem, this may work. Go into device manager, open
network adaptors, choose power management tab, then disable the power saving
mode for the modem. My computer will not wake from sleep unless I want it to
now.

Would those lan settings explain the computer waking up from "standby" or
"sleep" or Vista's low-power state (why cant microsoft stick to one term for
a few years), when the printer is turned off?
