Wake on LAN and Win2K hibernate

Adi

Hi all,

To make my work easier, I'm trying to setup a Wake on Lan
configuration between two Win2k PCs. Both PCs are capable
to do WOL and this feature (wake on PCI modem or LAN) is
enabled in BIOS.

When the PC that I want to wake-up is closed by Shutdown,
everything is OK (it can wake up by modem or LAN - magic
packet). When it is "closed" by Hibernate or Standby it
will not remontly wake up at all (the LAN card led is
still on !). It looks like both the LAN card and the modem
are powered off (for the Hibernate case the modem doesn
ring anymore as it does for the Shutdown case).
The Win2k settings in LAN card Power Management (allow the
device to be powered off... or allow this device to bring
the PC out of standby ...) does not have any influence !
to this behavior, either if they are checked or not.
The PC is comming OK out of hibernation (when I press the
power button).

Any hint with this issue ?

Many thanks in advance,
Adi

Hello,

Seems to be a very similar issue with Compaq DeskPro computers. In this
case there were two options on the Power Management tab for the network
adapter:

- "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby"

- "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

The Wake on LAN feature did not work if you enable the first option but not
the second. To resolve this issue and cause Windows 2000 to resume on a Wake
on LAN event, click to select both of the options on the Power Management
tab.
