After a full start of my system, my Wacom tablet works correctly and I can
use the pen like a pen.
If I put the computer to sleep and then wake it up, the pen is no longer
recognized as a pen and it thinks its a mouse - if I unplug the tablet and
plug it back in again, then it resumes working correctly ...

How can I get it to work correctly after going to sleep ?

Do you have the latest drivers from Wacom installed?
Also, because of your previous question, do you have the proper drivers
installed for your USB controller?

Yes, latest drivers from WACOM and latest drivers from Lenovo and Microsoft
for everything else.
