Wacom Intuous3 Prevents Booting

I'm using a Wacom Intuos3 tablet (love it!) on:

Gateway Laptop, P4, 3.9GHz, 2GB RAM
Vista Ultimate

If I leave the tablet plugged into the USB port (on the laptop or the USB
hub, makes no difference), I can't boot. I get to the screen where you see
"Microsoft Corporation" and should see the scrolling green progress bars. But
the green bars never appear. I turn off the PC, unplug the tablet, turn on
the PC, tell Vista to start normally, and everything works. Then I plug in
the tablet and I'm golden.

However, if I boot without the tablet, then I boot just fine.

I called Wacom Support and was told that Vista doesn't play well with
non-boot compatible (?) / necessary (?) devices. My webcam doesn't cause any
problems, so this seems odd to me, but OK. Regardless, Wacom Support said it
was up to MS to fix it. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Kieth

FWIW - I used to see the same problem with a Wacom Graphire2 Tablet on a
Gateway PC running WindowsXP - wouldnt boot - just hung (with a blank
screen) - remove the Pad - reboot - fine - plug in the pad - et Voila!

That one was down to a Bios upgrade. The USB impementation in the PCs Bios
caused a hang at the point where windows USB drivers were loaded. Eventually
a subsequent Bios Update resolved the problem.

Action: Try a Bios Update - couldnt hurt! (unless you apply the wrong one of
course)

Peter,

A good suggestion, thanks! However, I have the most current BIOS; it's not
been updated since I purchased my laptop.

Again my thanks,

Keith
