WAB to Outlook Contacts

Jim

Is there any way to actually get Outlook Express .WAB
file address into Outlook 2002 not using the shortcut
method? I want to do away with the .WAB. Is there any way
other than retyping all of the addresses into Outlook?

Thanks

The "shortcut method?"
Explain what you mean and what you need to do.

Outlook uses a link to the Outlook Express .WAB file when
you use the drag & drop or copy & paste procedures that
are on the MS web site. It does not actually move the
addresses into Outlooks Contact list.

Still totally unclear. Nor did you say what you need to do.
Is there some reason you cannot use Outlook's Import Wizard to do what you
want?

There is a data sharing option in Outlook Express that
was set to "Do Not Share" rather than "Share" information
with MS Outlook. When it set to "Do Not Share" all of
that address data is put into a .wab file. When you
import the address data from Outlook Express it brings in
all address data except the .wab files data. It only
creates a link to the .wab file when you do a drag & drop
or copy & paste from Outlook Express to Outlook. And that
is a very clunky way to access the addresses.

The share option displays Outlook's contacts in the wab interface. It does
not mix the contents of the WAB and Contacts in one file. It doesn't
"put"contacts in there - it just uses the wab as a display container.

I have no idea what you are talking about with the links and importing
brings in addresses except those in the WAB - it's the only address book OE
uses. If you use import (or export from OE - in either case, turn off
sharing first), copy and paste, or drag and drop, copies of the contacts in
the WAB are entered into Outlook's contacts folder. They are not links to
the originals, but actual copies.

I have the exact same issue as Jim here. Am utilising
Outlook when I previously used Express. When i try to
import the contacts all I get are blanks. I have tried
Jim's drag and drop method and the results are exactly as
he says. If you drag the WAB file into the contacts
folder Outlook creates a contact for the WAB file and
cretes a shortcut to link directly to the wAB file.

Still trying other ways to bring my previous contacts
from Express into Outlook since the import function fails
to get any results.

List the precise steps you are using to import, where these Contacts reside,
and your results.
Outlook's import Wizard works just fine for this with standard
configurations.
