WAB.DLL

Dear all

I have a client using Outlook, but when he tries to make a calendar entry
he gets an error message saying the WAB.DLL can't be found.

According to Microsoft this means the WAB.DLL is corrupt and to solve this
problem they suggest reinstalling Outlook. However they mention that the
WAB.DLL has something to do with the name and address book (contacts). So
does this mean my client will lose all his contact data?

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there a way to backup his
contacts even if corrupt before reinstalling Outlook?

Any feed back would be gratefully appreciated.

Outlook does not even use the WAB. Outlook Express does. You'd have to
reinstall Outlook Express to reinstall the WAB.
State your Outlook version and mail support mode.

I got it to work eventually. Basically I had to uninstall Outlook
Express, upgrade Internet Explore with the new version of Outlook Express.
After all this, Outlook finally stopped reporting the WAB.DLL error and
now works. Why are Microsoft products reliant on each other and not
stand-alone. If I wanted to uninstall Outlook Express and IE, use
Netscape as my browser and then install Outlook on its own would it work?

Don't worry I'm not a member of the Bill Gates hate squad just one of
those people who thinks up awkward scenarios. Plus it's also handy to
know what software packages are reliant on what when it comes to trouble
shooting.

Actually, it's not really as sinister as all that. When programs share
similar functions, it makes sense for them to share system resources.
Outlook 98/2000 in Internet Mail Only mode used many of the same resources
as OE (including the WAB) to make Outlook smaller and faster. We can leave
it to the DOJ to determine motive, here.
