WAB DLL problem in Outlook 2000 on Vista

I have installed MS Office 2000 on my new PC with Vista Home Premium, and it
seems to have installed fine. All the programmes work except Outlook. That
loads up OK, and downloads my emails OK. But when I try to send anything it
says "unable to find the WAB DLL". What can I do to correct this? Is it
some sort of conflict with Windows Mail also using the same file?

I don't think it's possible to correct that. I read that Outlook 2003 works
in Vista.

Hi John D--

If you don't have all three service packs installed, that can cause this
error. You installed Outlook 2000/ or Office 2000 onto Vista, but how about
all those service packs? Got them in?

Possibly:

You receive a WAB.dll file missing error message when you open the Windows
Address Book in Outlook 2000

OL2000: Error Message: The Add-In Dccext32.dll Could Not Be Installed

Good luck,

Actually Frank. Outlook 2000-2007 works fine in Vista. People need to
update all the service packs though, and many of them don't.

You have done what? "That" and other pronouns are vague. Gotten the
service packs or read the MSKBs and tried them?

Here would be my checklist John--

1) Detect and Repair (any Office app has it Help>Detect and Reapair or it
can be run from Programs on Vista >highlight Office or Outlook if it's
standalone>repair

2) Mine any help from the MSKBs, particularly the first one I listened.

3) Uninstall and reinstall Office with Outlook or Outlook and keep your AV
program off when you do the install.

But before you do, make sure to download the Windows Installer Cleanup
Utility which is used day in and day out by the Office setup experts who
write the Office setup and glitch MSKBs at Redmond--it's mentioned all the
time on the Office setup group--it gets reg orphans and corrupt .dlls out of
the way of the uninstall and future install:

Good luck,

Simple fix for this:

Go to \Program Files\Common Files\System

Copy these files to \Windows\System32

wab32.dll
wab32res.dll

This should fix your problem.
