Vista mail question being posted here

I tried the following submission on the Vista Mail Forum, but was not able
to generate any responses. I am hopeful that someone in this Forum might
have some thoughts.

I am new to Vista, and when I import my Windows 2000, Outlook Express (v.6)
..wab file into my Contacts folder, the email contacts are not overwritten,
but new email records are created. In 2000, I was able to move the .wab
file from computer to computer, since the file being imported would
overwrite the file which I was updating.

Probably, because the Vista Contacts is not a .wab file, if I import the
2000 .wab file three times to update my Contacts, I end up with three email
entries for each contact. If I am using (for the time being) the 2000 .wab
file as a master Address list, is there another way to update the Vista
Contacts list without creating multiple entries?

W2K *.wab files do hot work very well or do not work at all in Vista. You can try
the following hack but the transfer of the *.wab from W2K will always have an issue

You can try copying the WAB.dll to Vista and register it. This will fix one error
but you may have other issues

Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System and copy wab32.dll and wab32res.dll
to C:\Windows\System32

Register the DLL's by entering the following commands at the run prompt:

regsvr32 wab32.dll
regsvr32 wab32res.dll

I dont believe so, unless the import has a setting to exclude duplicates.

The easy solution, which I should have thought about earlier, is simply to
delete all of the entries in the Contacts folder and import anew.

I think he needs the other wab* files too. However, I poked with this
a little myself and could not get the .dll's to register (errors when
attempting).

The Vista "contacts folder" really is a lame POS. The question "what
could they have been thinking" is too weak.
