Import WAB keeping address groups and folders

J

Jake

Hi,

The subject says it all, my WAB file contains all my contacts neatly
organized into appropriate folders and groups.

However after having imported my WAB into Vista Contacts all addresses
are just one flat list. No groups or folders.

Are XP and Vista two entirely different worlds...? I cannot understand
why Vista shouldn't be able to import and recreate the imported WAB
folder and group structure...?

If I'm not missing something, please advice a way (or a 3rd party tool)
to import my WAB correctly into Vista

Thanks ;-)

XP Address Book is realized on common MAPI interfaces, therefore supporting groups and folders. Vista's address book is in its own proprietary format with its own interfaces...

I can't believe this.

Any other solution to get the wab's folders and groups into a Vista
compatible address book, 3rd party...?

You can try the Windows Mail and/or the Windows Live Mail newsgroup. I
could not find any programs that would do what you want when I made
the conversion. There are some 3rd party programs that fool with
address books but I could not make any of them work in terms of
groups.

FYI- Windows Mail (Vista) is a dead end product. No enhancements are
planned. You might consider that before converting. MS is trying for
force everyone to Windows Live Mail (a product that absolutely sucks
if you have multiple mail accounts... which is kind of funny since
that's what they claim it is designed for).

AGREED!!

I'm sticking with Outlook 2003.
