W7 Upgrade Advisor

XP runs the advisor with no problems. Vista, being a piece of trash, will
not run the advisor, even under compatibility mode. Any ideas on how to
get it running?

If Vista is a "piece of trash" then you don't need to worry about Vista now
do you? Stupid question.

Oddly enough, it runs fine here - as I'm sure it does for most
everyone else.

You might be suffering from a hex placed on you by an ex girlfriend.

Stupid answer. I want to upgrade my Vista to W7 and eliminate XP. I keep
Vista to run 1 or 2 programs that do not run under XP. I have used Vista
only a few times since getting XP running in December, but still need to
keep it. I want to make sure everything is in order before pre-ordering
W7.

Ex girlfriend was over 30 years ago. Also no hex's allowed here.

If your system can't handle the upgrade as it currently is, then
you'll have to upgrade your hardware.

Mine is in that situation: Win7 doesn't like its SATA drivers.

You must have a crap computer or a screwed up (probably by you) OS or both.

Compaq F767NR laptop, a much better system than my son's and his is running
W7 much better than Vista. Like Allen, though, I have SATA drives and want
to make sure it will run properly. I have had nothign but trouble with
Vista from the start. Dual booting to XP has been great, but not supported
by the manufacturer, thanks to Micro$$$oft's threats. It is funny how teh
few machines out there still offered with XP are selling for about $100
MORE than them. I understand that M$ is backtracking and again supporting
XP.

That is what I want to find out ahead of time, but the Advisor will not
run. I click Start Check and it just sits there.

In my case I let it run for 17 hours (overnight). At the end, Task
Manager still said it was running--but not using any resources.
Instead of just laughing at those of us for whom it won't work, why
doesn't someone actually make some suggestions about how to make it
work?

I believer it is the same stupid mentality of those who actually think
Obama is going a great job, even though he put a deliberate tax evader in
charge of the IRS, abortionist employee governor in charge of the
Department of Health and Human Services, nominated a bigot for a Supreme
Court justice, and is doing more of what caused the economic crisis in the
first place (just the tip of the Hitler-modeling party animal president).
Even though scores of people are having mega-problems with Vista, there is
nothing wrong with it. You are just too stupid to run it correctly or are
lying about your problems with it from the very start of using it, even
though you have no problems at all with XP or 2000.

Incidentally, I downloaded it (seven times) using Firefox, as I

Maybe you should ask Rush Limbaugh or his buddy Ann for computer
advice. That seems to be where you get your news.

With this kind of attitude you don't have to be surprised when people
respond in the way they do, because in your case it definitely isn't Vista's
fault. Something went wrong with the installation and must be corrected.
If your hardware is compatible and you installed correctly, the adviser will
work. If you prefer, you can always uninstall/delete it.

The last time I checked the W7 advisor is was in Beta, the final version to
be released at a later date.

Rush is an idiot. I got my news from MSN.

<H>.

I did not install it. It was installed by the manufacturer. Wake up and
smell the trash! LOTS of people have LOTS of problems with Vista. That is
why XP is still popular! I have no problem with XP, but lots of problems
with Vista. In the time it takes me to shut down and restart XP, Vista is
still shutting down. I have never had automatic restarts with XP, but lots
of them with Vista, at least 3 times a week. I have never had daily
program lockups like I did with Vista. Yes, Vista has lots of nice
features, but it is UNSTABLE and does NOT work on many computers. I
started out on computers on an early version of DOS (I *might* even have
the 5.25 floppies around somewhere). I taught my son and he taught his
computer teacher in high school (he had a whole semester's worth of work
done in about 2-3 weeks). I have dealt with every version of Windows from
2.1 to Vista and beta tested NT. Nothing has given me the problems that
Vista does.

And the deadline for pre-release sales prices is the 11th of July.

It might be just you.
The popularity of XP is due to how well XP works and what runs on it. It
has nothing to do with Vista. Most people just won't upgrade unless there's
a need. If users need software which won't run on XP, they'll upgrade, but
for the most part that won't happen anytime soon.
Your problems with Vista, and with running this BETA program, could be any
number of things. For one, it could have something to do with running an
AMD versus an Intel chipset. I've always been a fan of AMD myself because
they've had better performing hardware at better prices, though I bought a
package system Dell Studio for my latest machine which is an Intel. The
biggest problem with Vista has been people trying to do more with it than
their system is capable of. How much RAM do you have? Do you use the aero
theme? What sort of programs have you crashed?

I have 2GB ram, 250 GH HD, 2.3 GZ dual AMD 64 processor. What crashes?
games, Office XP and 2007, Media Player, RealPlayer, and anything else I
ran on it. Likewise it would do a system reset on any program. And it is
NOT just me. I have talked to lots of people with the same problems and on
higher end computers than I have.

Do you run aero? I hear that has major issues with low memory systems. 2
GB is considered low for Vista. I have 4 GB and mine runs fine.
How many games have you tried running on it? Do they all crash or just
particular ones?
Do you have all the latest updates for Windows, and for Media Player and any
other software which crashed? I don't use Office XP, I use Open Office, but
I haven't had any issues with Media Player.
Have you tried compatibility mode options for any programs that crashed?
