Norton Antivirus detected this worm and quarentined the infected files. My
understanding is that all I need to do to deal with the virus is to delete
the infected files and make a change in the registry.

Are the only files that are "infected" those that are added by the virus. Is
there any chance that any of the quarentined files are essential to the
system?

Thanks

When did it happen?
If the detection happened while attempting to execute or moving files then
deleting contents of quarantine folder should be sufficient.
You may want to read Norton description of affected files that this item
infects if allowed to run.
If your PC is operating properly, then don't worry about it.

Or, were you scanning your PC' HDD and a number of files were flagged as
infected?
If so, and your PC is not behaving normally, review Norton or other
antivirus write-ups and proceed to examine your PC registry and
compare/restore files. Infected files are not cleanable, worms typically
destroy contents of normal files (replacing it with their code).

Some antivirus software indeed can restore the registry entries to the
original condition after an infection. Norton may, but then it may not.
