can a virus program remove a good file? by mistake? (((C:\Documents and Settings\Gary\Application Data\wa_inst.ex
File infected with "W32/Swicer.A" virus and was successfully deleted.))
*right after this my CD drawer stopped working. I don't know if this was coincidence
On boot and shut down, when the PC is 'on', I can open and close it by pushing the button, so the mechanism is ok. Once the OS is up it makes a clicking noise but will not open by pressing the button, or Clicking Eject in My Computer/CD Drive E: / Eject..(oh a red light comes on below the green 'on' light, for a few seconds when I press the button or click Eject

Of course viruses can damage legitimate files, but wa_inst.exe isn't one
of them. That file installs a Web Assistant, which is associated with
spyware. The problem with your cd drive sounds like a hardware issue.
Perhaps people have been shutting it by pushing in the door instead of
using the button. That will eventually mess up the belt.
