"System \restorevol info (then a wholelune of numbers and letters) .exe

and then it says Deny access W32/stanit

Trend online scanner does not show any viruses

Does anyone know how to get rid of W32/stanit please?

Judy

W32/Stanit seems to be affecting mostly European-based machines at this
point: http://www.google.com/ie?q=stanit&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&btnG=Search

For now, treat it like you would any piece of hijackware:

Check for Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm

When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to
use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
**Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,

Hi - Im still working on this one - I have set up a Hijack file and fill
post it to a forum - will let you know how I get on.

Thanks
Judy

Hello - I actually contacted a different forum, and think I have now solved
the problem. Many thanks for your suggestions.

Judy

YW. If you post the URL to your forum thread, I'll look in on it, if you
want.

As W32/Stanit was supposedly found in a System Restore file, disabling
System Restore (which deletes all Restore Points) and then re-enabling it
would be your fix, yes. I would encourage you, however, to create a new
Restore Point manually right now.

What about your posting of your HijackThis log to the other forum? What's
come of that? URL?

I didnt get around to it - sorry - after it worked ok - I wasnt getting any
errors msgs, and all seems well now. I will however do a restore point.

Thanks again
Judy
