W2K XP pro peer to peer

I am sure that this is a common question. But I did not
find the topic in the first few pages - so I'll ask again.
I have XP pro and 2000. Both with ether net and both
wired into the and a hub. NICs report that they are
functioning. Neith machine sees the other. The sad thing
is that once they did and hubby and I were a happy little
home network - I am not sure what has changed.
XP documentation says that I should see W2K
documentation. W2K docs bost of automatic connection to
network but make no mention of XP.
I have Client for Microsoft Networks (Using Windows
Locator), TCP/IP (Obtain Ip and DNS server addresses
automatically), File and Printer Sharing fro Microsoft
Networks, and QoS Packet Scheduler all installed. I have
two computers with names and a WORKGROUP.
What should I try next? My next plan includes two tin
cans and a bunch of string.
Thank you

I have a similar problem, but I get further.
My W2KPro can see the shares on WinXP, but not the othe
way around.
I can ping from both machines.
I can;t find any article relating this problem (usefull
ones).
Make sure that Windows FileSharing is enable on both and
that Client for MS Network is added on networking.

Here you go.Workgroup must be the same and have a user account on each machine(save name and password). Then check the IP addresses, You didn't mention what the ip addresses were, but they must be valid for your setup. Without knowing you're setup I can't say what that should be. Win XP pro has a stupid little feature that sometimes gets in the way of sharing on a network. "simple file sharing" Uncheck the box for this feature ( select tools from the menu of an explore window and choose folders options on the view screen scroll to the bottom and uncheck the box.) post your IP addresses and I will be able to see if that is the problem.
Good luck

This is general checklist for sharing files between PCs
in a peer to peer network. There can be other reasons but
I think most people new to networking and finding sharing
a problem will find the answer somewhere in this
checklist.

These checks are all essential for sharing to work with
TCP/IP.

- All PCs have the same workgroup.
- All PCs have a unique computer name.
- ALL PCs have network shares defined.
- ALL NICS are on the same subnet (e.g. IP 192.168.0.*
subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
- MS Client and file & printer sharing are checked on
each NIC.
- All PCs have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled.
- All NICs have their node type = anything except p-node
(point-point). Check with Ipconfig /all (XP/W2K) or
winipcfg (W9X).
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled.
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled, uninstalled and
deleted (until connection is working).

Allow 15 mins after rebooting a PC for that PC to appear
in the workgroup,or for it to see all other PCs.
