Hi everyone

I'm new to newsgroups so I apolgise in advance if this question has already
been addressed and I missed the original.

I have a W2K server that has taken to restarting itself of it's own accord.
It usually happens once in the small hours of the morning and then again
anytime between 8.30am and 11.30am. There is very little (if anything) in
the event logs to show what may be causing this to happen. Usually once it
has restarted between 8.30am and 11.30am then it will not restart again
until the following day.

I realise that I'm not providing a huge amount of info here. Realistically
I am not expecting a fix but would really appreciate any thoughts on what
could be causing this to happen so that I can start looking into the right
areas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Andrew

To be able to see the blue screen stop message; Control
Panel|System|Advanced|Startup and Recovery, I usually like to uncheck
"Automatically reboot" this way you get a chance to read the stop error.

If no BSOD's occur (Event ID: 1001 Source: Save Dump), then it may be a
power problem. I would look at a possible faulty (or undersized) pc power
supply, UPS, bad battery, or the circuit feeding the outlet that the pc is
plugged into.

Hi Dave

Thank you very much for getting back to me so quickly.

Last week I tried taking off the automatic reboot option and the machine
still rebooted so I added it back on again. I then checked the memory dump
file although thankfully not for too long because I realised that it was
dated sometime in 2001 so the server is not faulting in such a way as to
create a memory dump file. There are also no Save Dump errors in the Event
Viewer.

Your comments regarding power supply may ring true though so I will
investigate that area tonight and will probably move it to an alternate
power supply in the short term to see how that works. I have a contractor
scheduled for Sat 28 Feb to come in and do none other than install new power
loops to the server room.

I am still a bit baffled as this only happens once or twice a day and
generally in the morning so if anyone else has any suggestions I will be
following them all up. First things first though, powers supplies and the
like.

Thanks again Dave

All the best

Andrew
