w2k Pro reinstall difficulties

I've been using w2k for a few years without any problems until a couple of
days ago after installing an update. I got an error message saying that
windows was unstable (which I noticed anyway) and said I needed to put the
w2k disc in to replace damaged/erroneous files. Setup gets to final actions
(updating registry) and hangs up. Attempted 6 or 7 times now with same
result & cant get out of setup on reboot. What can I do?

You've had a pretty good run with your installation. I recommend
you back up your files, then re-install Windows. You will, of course,
have to re-install all software. To take the pain out of a similar event
a few years from now, take a snapshot of your installation twice a
year, using an imaging product such as DriveImage (PowerQuest)
or TrueImage (Acronis).
