I have a W2K pro system that seems to not be able to boot off the hd (only 1 ntfs partition). I formatted a boot disk (with ntloadr and ntdetect); the system is able to boot properly off the disk and load the os.
Whenever the system tries to boot off of the hd the screen goes blank with just a cursor in the upper left-hand corner and no hd activity whatsoever. I know that this can result from a couple of different things, but I'm leaning towards a badly fragmented mft (I defragged the disk shortly before this problem, and it was extremely fragmented). I searched through the KB articles and have seen that this symptom can result from a fragmented mft on NT, but nothing was mentioned about 2K. Does anyone know if this is a symptom that was just not documented?
