I installed a fresh copy of Windows 2000 Professional on a stand-along
PC. Everything went great and finally the display was 640x480 and 16
colors setting. I tried to change the display properties as we all
usually do & to my surprise the Properties button in the Monitor tab
was disabled/greyed out.

I just did everything I could possibly think of (including installing
the OS on another desktop PC) and was not able to fix it at all.

I've seen a lot of posts on this, but no resolution. Please let me
know if you know the fix for this. Have already wasted two days on
this.

Have you installed graphics drivers for yr hardware?
Is yr graphics card installed correctly?

I've also seen a lot of posts on the subject, and every one had a
resolution. The answer is that you have to install the appropriate video
drivers for your system. These come from the graphics card manufacturer
-- they are not usually included in Windows itself. If this is a system
which previously had Win2K installed, you should have a CD or floppy
containing the appropriate driver files. If you can't locate it, you need
to go the the video card manufacturer for help.

I will do this tonight & post if it fixes the problem or not. You're
right, the PC had W2K installed before & I cannot recall if I had
installed the video card drivers seperately. Thank you.

A fresh install implies that you formated/installed, thereby wiping
everything including drivers.
Its not just video drivers but you may be missing mobo drivers, as supplied
on origonal setup disks.

Hello Gary & DL
Video card drivers was the problem. Installed it & worked like a
charm. Thank you both!!!
