W2000 won't shut down

Frequently when I click to shut down my w2k system I wind
up getting a blank, blue screen, and then the computer
stops and will not shut down unless I restart it and shut
it down a second time. After clicking shut down, it goes
through all the normal routines, leaving the
messages "saving your settings" and then "windows is
closing down", grinds a bit and then just leaves me with a
blue screen. This has been going on for some time.
Obviously something is wrong. Anyone got a thought on how
to correct it?

try installing the UPHClean patch if W2000 or XP. Do a
search for it on the support site. Sometimes the registry
doesn't unload and it seems to take a very long time to
shut down. That patch worked for me.
