W2000 + HP 6110 fax not working

A

alan

I've just installed an HP 6110 all inone printer/fax/etc.
This unit faxs ok as a stand alone unit - but the fax
software does not install on the PC(laptop). I previously
had a HP 725 all in one working fine. HP tell me that the
fax driver is missing from the o/s ... but how do i find
out where an updated driver is ... or any other ideas?
Thanks.

You would need to contact HP for their driver.
However Win2000 itself has a faxing solution. If you have a analog modem
and a analog phone line, you can send and receive faxes from Win2000.

I am not sure whether your case uses the in-built fax support from Windows
2000. You can possibly get this clarified from HP folks. For the default
Windows 2000 fax, there is no external installation needed for Fax. All fax
files will be present in %windir%\system32 and Fax service start type is
"Manual". When you attach a fax modem, windows 2000 detects it and installs
Fax service and fax printer.
Following shortcuts will be added in Programs->Accessories->
Communications->Fax

a.. Fax Queue
b.. Fax Service Management
c.. My Faxes
d.. Send Cover page
So make sure that when you connect your device to the computer, it shows up
as a modem in Device Manager (My Computer > Manage > Device Manager)
