vvbususb error

I am about at the end of my rope here. I don't know where to post this or
what to do, but I am quite stumped.

I recently upgraded to a new computer - new motherboard (pcChips P25G), new
processor (Celeron 2.8G), new SATA hard drive, new memory. I am using DSL
with an Actiontech gateway (1520).

Originally, I was using Windows 2000 Pro, all updated as it should be
through Windows Update. I started getting blue screens and reboots.
Constantly. I checked the event viewer and after each reboot, there shows up
a stream of 'information' entries and ends in an 'error' entry. The error
entry is:

Source: vvbususb

Type: Error

EventID: 24

Description: Signalling command completed with ATMOS error.

Here is what I have done. I thought it was a driver with my Actiontech
modem, but I can't find any driver that shows it updated past what I am
currently using. My old computer, it worked fine. I thought it was an issue
with my USB drivers and chipset, so I downloaded the newest drivers from the
MB manufacturer and VIA (it is a VIA chipset). I thought it was just the
onboard USB chips, so I got a PCI USB card and put the modem on it. I tried
moving ALL my USB devices to the PCI USB card. I tested the memory and it
tested fine. I even tried to upgrade to WinXP. All to no avail. I still get
the crash.

At this point I am about to try a different MB. This really seems to me like
a software problem. I saw the same thing happen with Win2000 and WinXP, so I
am doubting the problem is there, but I don't know.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!!!

Thanks.

Possibly caused by your Actiontec 1520 drivers. Go to the manufacturer
web site and get the newest drivers for your product.

Find vvbususb.sys in your system32\drivers folder
(%systemroot%\system32\drivers) and rename it to vvbususb.old then try
to install the new drivers. Perhaps the vvbususb.sys on your computer
is damaged. Maybe these are the drivers for your product?

It's up to you to ensure that these are indeed for your product! If not
navigate the site for the proper drivers for your hardware.

Thanks for your reply, John.

I did try that, and no luck. I even tried some older versions of the
vvbususb.sys driver and it doesn't seem to affect it one way or the other.

I am starting to wonder if it's some sort of chipset conflict.

I don't know. That the Actiontec is causing the problem is more of a
guess than hard fact. The file seems to belong to the router, maybe you
can email tech support at Actiontec and see if they have a suggested
fix. How old is the router? Perhaps it's incompatible as you suggest,
you could try a different router and see what happens. For
troubleshooting you can try disabling the router in the Device Manager
and see what happens, that might confirm the origin of the problem.
