Err - none of the CCDs that go into consumer scanners are first class,
so it's a bit of a surprise that Ed expected they might be. ;-)

It would be no surprise to anyone that the above is no surprise to
me... ;o)
That doesn't quite ring true to me. Excessively hot cells (high dark
current) will show up in short exposures more than other cells. You
increase the exposure to detect the less variation in the better cells.

It's not the first time he used implausible excuses. Indeed, depending
on the message flow the excuses are often contradictory.

Case in point:

During the separate analog gain thread, he first claimed it was near
impossible to do because it would upset his whole color management.

Later in the same thread he stated exactly the opposite by claiming it
was elementary and he could implement it anytime.

Good for you Fernando. Now, let's hope it makes it through to the
latest version and doesn't reappear later in another version after
something else is "fixed". :)
