Vuescan histogram and preview image

I tried to modify the set points on the histogram and then preview the
changes but each time I click on the preview tab to check the results of my
changes I have to wait 10 seconds. I then have to wait for the histogram
screen to come up when returning to make another change. Very slow.

Is it meant to be this slow? Can I not get the preview screen and the
histogram displayed simultaneously? I can't imagine my computer is too slow
as if it was 50 % faster (which it would be with the latest specs) the
program would be still too slow.

I have a P4 1.8MHz and 500+mb of fast memory.

Thanks,
Andrew

That seems to be longer than I experience.

Not in the current implementation.

Current specs would approach 100% faster (double speed, half time)
operation, but that's not very relevant for your question.

Which version of VS are you using?
What is the preview resolution you selected on the Input Tab?
What is the status bar showing as size of the cropped area?
Are you zoomed in or fully zoomed out?

Make sure you have dust removal or IR cleaning off when doing
the previews. This will speed up the previews. You can turn
it back on when making the final scan.

No need to do a another preview, just refresh. Since you seem to have
auto-refresh off (good approach imo), type <ctrl>E when your done
changing settings, and your preview image should update, a lot quicker
than a new preview. Refresh is also available in one of the pulldowns.

Thanks for the reply. I think it helps to use the input scroll bars to
change the values and this way it is a bit quicker and you can undo the
changes better than flipping through the tabs. I do think there should be a
reset option so if you don't like the settings you can revert to how it was
or better still an undo option.

I am using the latest version of VS.

I use the auto resolution.

Status bar shows the cropped area at a bit smaller than the max res for the
transparency, 3300 wide typical.

Zoomed out.
