VUA 1.0 error "we could not contact the web service at this time..

Hi all,

IT professional and action pack subscriber here, received my Windows Vista
Upgrade Business today and am getting a feel, well actually I'm failing at
the first hurdle.

I've autorun the DVD and chosen to "Check compatibility online", downloaded
the VUA 1.0 and run it. I get trhe error I've truncated above.

I can access the Internet with no problems using both IE7 and Firefox
through my W2k3 DC and ISA2000 box.

Strangely even Google is very quiet about this, I can't find anything that
mentions any answered questions apart from setting my proxy to itgproxy port
80 or similar which is never going to work on my network.

Ethereal shows 0 (yep ZERO) packets being sent out on the wireless network,
ergo not even trying to contact the network never mind the Internet.

However there appear to be many people with the same problem......

So, my question is, anyone know what's going on and how I can get this to
run?

Cheers

Bigdoubleya,

Do you have two enabled NIC's in the system? Say one wireless and one wired?

Hi Bill,

I have a wired port that is not connected but it isn't disabled.

I assume you're going to suggest that I disable it and retry so I will later.

I would have thought that the VUA would have checked the state of the
adaptors and used the IE Internet settings to make this a breeze personally.

Cheers

I have received this error 100% of the time and I only have 1 enabled NIC. I
have also followed the instructions to uninstall and install a new version.
The same issue.

I had a firewall and AV installed but disabled those as well.

I have no proxy server on this network so that should not be the issue and
the internet is working fine on the machine.

Not sure if "what" means you did not get all of my post, which I copied below
or the context of the thread.

The issue is that VUA 1.0 error can not find network appears everytime I run
the tool.

I'm glad to see it's not just me!

I've disabled my wired adaptor and got the same problem, heck I even took a
leaf out of the NT4 book and rebooted after removing VUA and then reinstalled
it!

I can only assume it's a hardware issue, considering this product was
trialed for so long I can't believe we're the only people who have this
problam.

C'mon Microsoft, lend an MVP over here!
