VSS error id 12302

I'm suddenly multiple errors from VSS in the event log of 12302, which coincides with my Backupe Exec backups failing with an error of 'unable to access the Writer Metadata

VSS Service is running, VSSAdmin list writers shows nothing. Any suggestions?
