I am currently trying to install itunes onto my new windows vista computer
and after the download is complete and I go to run the program it tells me
that it cannot run because the VISUAL BASIC SCRIPT is either turned off, or
not installed. I've searched all over the computer for answers and can't find
anything!
Someone please help :(

Itunes isn't really vista compatible yet. If you go back to
apple.com/support there is a patch there which some people have reported
helped them with itunes - you might need that though I'm not sure if it will
help with the installation phase.

For that, have you right-clicked on the installer program and tried run as
admin? Looked at the compatability settings inside properties, and set
compatability level to XP?

Robert,
Your comment is puzzling. I was reading a post with a similar message a
couple of days ago while iTunes was playing music on my Windows Vista
Ultimate.

Yep, it works here too, a comment I didn't make in my original post because
if you're stuck in the hole like the original poster there's nothing more
frustrating than hearing "Well _I'm_ ok".

Despite the fact that we're both OK, several people _have_ reported problems
with iTunes, and some of these have been acknowledged by Apple
(http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305042). If you check the
iTunes download page (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/), you'll notice
that "Windows Vista" is conspicuous by its absence in the list of supported
systems.

When I first attempted to install Vista I performed a clean install and had
all kinds of issues with iTunes. It's safe to say it pretty much just didn't
work at all.

Since then, for a number of other reasons as well as iTunes I gave up on
Vista and I did a clean install of XP while I waited for Vista to get a bit
better supported. I was careful to keep the install clean and clear of
rubbish, and later performed an upgrade install, and iTunes is now working
for me on Vista... but not everyone is as lucky as you and me.

I am having exactly the same problem with my new vista laptop.
I have tried all Robert's suggestions without success.
I have also downloaded the latest version from apple.
Apple do not seem to recognise the problem.
Would appreciate any help in solving this.
Also will not install latest QuickTime - error 2738 but that's another
problem!

Hello. This is from another post dated 3/12/07.

This resolved two installations issues for me: one for itunes and the other
for Amazon Unbox which actually had a different message: error 1603.

Be sure to right click and select "run as administrator" before trying to
open a command line box or you will receive an error. If the process works,
you will get a message indicating success.

I downloaded the latest iTunes version and got the same error message.
After a lot of trial and error and research on the Internet I found a
solution that worked for me. I hope it also helps other users trying to
install iTunes on Vista.

1. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click on Command
Prompt -> Run As Administrator.

2. If you don’t end up in the C:\windows\system32 folder, go there

3. Once there type in regsvr32 vbscript.dll and press enter

4. You should get a conformation message

5. Install iTunes

Hope this helps:confused:

hi, I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your question but you are not alone.
I have the same problem and message. I already have it but I'm trying to
upgrade and can't and I have a friend who wants me to download some music and
I can't download to her nano'. I FEEL YOUR PAIN

dr bug, you're FANTASTIC! After all these weeks of trying and asking
everyone, you're the only one who actually came through. I owe you a beer.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I had no problem with iTunes and Vista until I
installed a DVD burner program - then this same VBScript message - all day
I've worried with this through tech support at Dell and on my own

Thank you SO much! perfect!!
