VPN works on dial-up but fails through LAN

Tom

Running Windows XP Pro on my laptop, when I activate VPN to access my
coporate server, it works flawlessly if I dial-up directly from the
laptop but fails when I'm connected through my home server (Windows
2000 Pro). The VPN software will launch with no problems both ways
but I cannot access my email account or the Internet when connecting
through the desktop. The Windows 2000 desktop computer is using the
same dial-up account. The two computers share a workgroup account,
there is no domain. Without VPN loaded, the laptop accesses the
internet and another email account through the desktop with no
problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I believe their routing tables are different. compare the routing tables by
using route print or post them here.

Whenever you tunnel into another network (i.e VPN) the client that has
initiated the tunnel will have his route table changed so that it can access
resources on the remote network.

I am a bit confused on your setup, but it sounds like the route table
changing is your problem.
