VPN to win2000 server

I have Win 2000 advance server running I have configured it to except vpn
and it works internally. My problem is when I try to connect externally I
get a 721 error. I do not think the router I have is allowing me to get to
the server. I have a AOpen AOI 906 WiFi Router. I have forwared port 1723
to my server and I have set up a virtual server on the same port. What is
really wierd is that I can terminal server into the server from the internet
and all I did was set up a virtual server on port 3389. Does anyone know
what I am missing to make the VPN work?

What is missing is GRE. PPTP (tcp 1723) controls to setup and maintenance
of the tunnel. The data is encrypted and encapsulated with a GRE header. If
any router or firewall blocks GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation - IP
protocol 47) not data can pass through and the tunnel closes.

How to enable GRE on your particular router is a problem you will have
to sort out yourself (unless somebody here has used that particular one).
Check for GRE by name and by IP protocol number. Some routers refer to it as
PPTP pass-through mode or even VPN pass-through mode.

Thanks for the help. I have looked in the router configuration and PPTP
pass-through mode is there and is checked off. I do not see anywhere that I
can edit it though. I will have to check the manual and website unless
someone else knows how to do it with this router. AOI-906
