VPN Questions

Hello:

We have a small 6 PC office that is set-up on a peer-to-
peer network using windows XP Pro. We have a DSL service
with a DSL router. We would like to have people be able
to access the office network from home or the road to
retrieve e-mail (soon to be Outlook 2003) and to use an
Access (soon to be 2003) database that we use heavily.

Can we use the built in VPN features of Office XP to
allow
for our users to access the company network? We will
need
to have the ability to allow multiple users to access the
network remotely at the same time. We do not have a
hardware firewall (outside of that used on the DSL
router) - therefore, if we use the XP Pro VPN features
would we point to the DSL router address?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is
something
we would like to successfully implement in the ocming
weeks.

Thank you,
Connie

Yes, you will be able to use the built in VPN functionality of Windows
XP Pro, but you will only be able to connect 1 user at a time... This
is a license limitation of the client OS. Other solutions that would
allow you to have more connections is to get a VPN router (like the
Linksys model) or to use one of the server OS's as a host.
