VPN problems

Guys,

I am having real problems with gaining access to a client via VPN and
wonder if anyone has any ideas.

The client says they have VPN set up and working and have tested
access from a remote location. They have supplied me with a username,
password and domain to log on with.

I am trying to get access from two locations - work and home.

At work I am effectively behind two firewalls and there are two NAT -
one into the building which is managed premises and one into our
company. When I try the VPN connection I get the error:

Error 721: The remote computer is not responding.

(This is after I get connecting to IP address and then verifying user
and password).

I imagined this was something to do with the NATs and the like and
hence decided to try from home.

At home I have a broadband connection that allocates me an IP address
when I connect. When I try to connect from home I get the

ERROR 930: The remote computer did not respond in a timely fashion

error. If I specify the incorrect password it does challenge me so it
is getting so far. Another thing I have noticed is that when I enter
the login domain it only allows me to enter upper case.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

On another related point - we will need VP access at some point from
work. We cannot afford to have our own dedicated internet connection
so I wondered if there were any sites/services that allowed you to
connect with http or whatever and then set up a VPN from there?

Again, any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Graham

The error 721 is probably aused by a firewall/router blocking GRE (IP
protocol 47). A PPTP VPN connection uses GRE headers on its data packets.

On the password issue, try using the (e-mail address removed) format.

Could I ask you to expand a bit further please.

Is this a server, client or network problem and how would we resolve it?

TIA

Graham
