VPN/Possible Security Compromise

M

Mike Holley

I have several Windows XP PRO laptops that I need to equip with VPN to get
file access to our servers while outside of our office. The workstations
connect to the resources no problem while inside of our network, but if I
attempt to access the persistent shares while on the VPN, I either get a
message stating,

1. 'local device name already in use'
2. 'possible security compromise has been detected'

I have tried several things to get this going, but have been unsuccessful.
The details of the setup are as follows:

Windows 2000 server with SP3 in the main office, Windows XP Pro client with
all of the patches, Sonicwall VPN software client.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Mike.

I was told by my supplier to scrap that software becuase
it was a Security Loophole into my network.

I would suggest that you find another supplier. Although VPN is far from
perfect, it is also not as bad as your supplier appears to be making out. BTW,
if someone wants into your system badly enough, they are going to get in. We
get a lucky break this week. The *good* hackers are all in a meeting with MS
but you can bet that you could not keep them out of your system.
