VPN over internet ??

- We have a small office with 3 usrs setup as a peer-to-peer network. They
are running XP Pro.
- We have a 4th computer setup to share a folder named NetworkDrive. It is
simply setup as another peer-to-peer machine. It is running XP-Home.
- We keep all our files on the NetworkDrive and all the 'clients' use those
files when they are working so nothing is kept on the client machines.
- We want to be able to access and use those files from home or where
evere...
- We want to do this using a VPN so the remote computer simply looks like
another folder on the local machine.

Questions:
- Must we buy server software and install it in order to do this or will XP
alone do it?
- Turns out XP home is on the computer we all share... will I need to
upgrade to XP Pro?

thanks for any help on this.

What kind of a router/firewall are you using? You will need some kind of a
VPN server to do this, and the router has to be enabled to accept VPN
traffic. A system running Windows 2003 can do the trick by setting up RRAS,
but if you are looking for a free solution try OpenVPN instead. Theres a GUI
version for Windows XP, if you are unfimiliar with Linux.

-HTH
