VPN extremely slow

DVG

I've successfully established both RDC and VPN connections between two XP
Pro machines (both using the features native to XP). However, the VPN
connection is so slow that it's useless. RDC, however, is very fast and
works great. I really need the VPN to work properly. Does anyone know what
could be causing this? I have similar setup on both systems (high speed,
DLink DI-604 routers).

Thanks in advance,
Derek

VPN, and accessing files/apps across a VPN connection, will always be slower
than Remote Desktop, as the latter is just giving you screen shots, not
transferring lots of stuff across the connection. What is the Internet
connection speed in both locations?

Thanks for replying Lawrence. Both ends have high-speed (DSL), which appear
to be at 10Mbps. Good point about the why VPN will be slower, but I'm not
sure it should be this slow. Derek

Your connection might be fast, but you also have to take into consideration
that your download speed is fast, not upload. I am willing to bet that you
are using ADSL which is limited to 128k (13kb) upload speed. So, one
computer might be downloading at amazing speeds, but the other computer
which is uploading is limited, same if you reverse the process. Hope this
helps.

Hi - in addition to the other sage reply, note that the 10Mbps you see is
for the LAN side - not the Internet connection speed.
