Dan

I've set up a VPN from my windows xp (workgroup) home
network, to my brother's windows xp (workgroup) home
network. We both use Cox high speed internet and both our
home networks use broadband routers. When I try and
connect, I get an error 733, stating that the connection
couldn't be completed, and I might need to adjust the
protocols on my comuter. If we try in the reverse then he
gets the same message. I would just like to know what I
need to do to have this work. We've both enabled pptp
passthrough on our routers, and allowed port 1723 usage.
Your time is much appreciated! Thank you.

This problem can occur if you use the DHCP option in Incoming Connections
and the "Incoming Connections" machine is unable to contact a DHCP server.
To overcome this problem, try using a static address pool. Right click on
Incoming Connections icon, go to networking tab, and with TCP/IP selected,
click on properties tab. Change from "Assign TCP/IP address automatically
using DHCP" to "Specify TCP/IP addresses" and then specify a range of
addresses. For more info see article 168720.
