I have 4 servers and have configured them for PPTP-VPN servers.
w/WLBS, each 2 servers have 1 virtual-IP. 2 virtual-IPs are in the same
subnet.
I could connect each servers usually, but yesterday I couldn't connect.
At the end of previous connection, the server had a log shown below.
----
The user DOMAIN(J\user1 connected on port 4-499 on [date] at [time] and(B
disconnected on [date] at [time]. The user was active for
* minutes * seconds. * bytes were sent and * bytes were received. The
port speed was *. The reason for disconnecting was administrator's
request.

Hi,

Thank you for your post.

If I understand properly, there are 4 Windows 2000 PPTP-VPN servers in this
environment. Suddenly, you find that all users cannot connect to the VPN
servers, an event 20048 is logged in the event viewer.

Firstly, I would like to check if the check box Restrict Maximum Session
to: is selected and configured on the VPN servers. If so, please unchecked
the setting and restart the RRAS to check the result.

If the issue persists, please collect the RRAS tracing and event logs for
further research:

RRAS tracing:
=============

To enable rras tracing, run the following command at the command prompt on
a VPN server and a client machine:

netsh ras set tracing * enabled

And then, try to connect to the VPN server to reproduce the issue.

After the issue occurs, zip the %systemroot%\tracing on both machines.

You can disable the tracing by using the following command:

netsh ras set tracing * disabled

Event Log:
=============

Please export the system and application event log on both machines.

After that, please zip and upload the information above to the following
space:

Thanks. I look forward to your response.

Hi,

How are things going? I have not hear from you for a few days and want to
check on the status of the issue. Have you collected the RRAS tracing log?

In addition, I would like to confirm the following information with you:

1. What is the exact error when the VPN connection fails? Please let us
know the exact error WORD BY WORD.
2. According to the description, it seems that you are using NLB. Are you
using Windows NLB feature or some third party hardware NLB?
3. Does this issue exist for two NLB clusters or just some of them?
4. If your NLB solution enables you to connect to a VPN server directly,
please establish a VPN connection to a specific VPN server. Can the
connection be established properly?
5. Are these client behind NAT?

If there is anything unclear, please feel free to let me know. I look
forward to your response.

Have a nice day.

Sincerely,
Joson Zhou
